In 2024, I took a break from work to finally do something I had been dreaming about for a long time—making art. I’ve always found ways to be creative in my job, but I wanted the chance to fully focus on learning new artistic skills. One of the best experiences of this journey was taking a stained glass workshop in Bolsena, Italy.
Bolsena, a beautiful old town by a volcanic lake, was the perfect place for this experience. The workshop took place in a cozy studio, where sunlight streamed through the windows and lit up all the colorful glass pieces. Each day, I got to work with my hands—cutting, assembling, and soldering glass—realizing how much patience and precision it takes to bring a design to life. It was both relaxing and challenging, a mix of skill and creativity.
I was drawn to stained glass because of how it transforms light into something magical. Every piece had its own story, not just in the design but in the way it played with color and shadows when the sun shined through. Learning this old-school technique made me feel connected to a long tradition of artists who have used it for centuries to create beautiful windows and decorations.
More than just learning a new skill, this experience reminded me how much I love working with my hands. There’s something so satisfying about taking raw materials and turning them into something unique that I made myself. It brought me back to why I love art in the first place—the fun of creating, the excitement of learning, and the personal connection to the work.
This workshop in Italy was more than just a class; it was a huge step in my artistic and personal journey. It made me even more excited to keep exploring new ways to create and bring more of these experiences into my life. Whether it’s stained glass, painting, or something else, this time off has reinforced that art will always be a part of who I am.
